Made of six 18th-century buildings on Old San Juan's north wall, the Inn rambles through arched halls, hidden patios, and candlelit rooms - every corner adorned with paintings, sculpture, and Steinway pianos collected over a lifetime.

Rooms with character, not a template
No two rooms are alike. Housed in buildings nearly five centuries in the making, each is shaped by the old walls around it - many opening to balconies and terraces over the ocean, the gardens, or the rooftops of the old city. Tempur-Pedic mattresses and the deliberate absence of televisions invite you to slow down and lean into the house.

Music lives in nearly every corner of the house. Through a long relationship with the Steinway Society of Puerto Rico, the Inn hosts intimate concerts - world-renowned musicians beside the young players of Puerto Rico - with Steinway pianos throughout the hotel.

Two rooftops over the old city
At the front of the house, Nico Bar pours cocktails and food with the Atlantic at its back - open to all who climb up. Higher still, about forty feet above, a private roofdeck for hotel guests opens a full 360-degree sweep over Old San Juan, the harbor, and the open sea. No bar, no service: just the view, and whatever you carry up.
By day & by night
Courtyards, pools, and hidden corners
By day, the house opens onto fifteen patios and terraces, two pools, gardens, and sculpture - corners of plaster, terracotta, and old wood to slip away to. By night, music and candlelight, with the Caribbean nightlife of Calle San Sebastián just beyond the walls.

A living artwork
The house that Jan built
In 1961, the painter and sculptor Jan D'Esopo found the ruined quarters of an artillery captain who once manned the defenses of El Morro - and spent the next decades restoring it, building, and filling it with her work. The Inn is her gallery, studio, and home, and it remains a living artwork to walk through.
